I’m usually on a tight budget and rarely spend more than $30 on a bottle, but I decided to treat myself and bought a bottle of 2012 Dagueneau Silex for $100. It was definitely worth the splurge.

There was this one time when I was at a restaurant, and I just pointed at a wine on the menu, mostly focusing on the price and the region, looking for a red Burgundy. Back then, I wasn’t as knowledgeable about wines as I am now, and my budget was under $300. The wine turned out to be incredible, but when the bill arrived, I was shocked to find it was $1200! It seems I had accidentally chosen a much pricier option than I intended. When the server brought out the bottle, I didn’t recognize it at all. During the meal, I commented on how amazing the wine was, and she replied, “You picked it,” turning the compliment back to me. Even though it was a hefty splurge, it was worth it. Once I got home, I reached out to the restaurant to find out what wine I had ordered, but it remains a mystery to this day.
